About Hair Extensions at Cut Above

Yes, we offer hair extensions. Guests come to us for length, for volume, or for fullness where their hair has thinned, and each of those goals points to a different approach.

We start with your hair, never with a catalog: what you want extensions to do, what your mornings look like, and what your hair has already been through. Nothing goes in before that conversation happens, and if extensions are not the right call yet, we will tell you in the chair instead of three months later.

  • Density

How much weight your natural hair can carry without pulling at the root. Fine, fragile hair does better with lightweight placement, and thicker hair can usually carry more.

  • Texture

Curly, wavy and straight hair blend differently. We match the extension texture to yours, not the other way around.

  • Hair and Scalp Health

Hair that has been lightened more than once may need strength first. We often start with an Aveda Botanical Repair or Damage Remedy treatment before a set goes in.

  • Your Routine

How often you wash, whether you work out most mornings, and how you sleep all change which method is realistic for you.

  • 1. Consultation

We look at your hair up close, talk through your goals, and tell you honestly whether extensions make sense right now.

  • 2. Color Match

Extension hair has to match your natural color, including regrowth and sun-lightened ends. If a color service is part of the plan, we schedule it around the same visit so the tones sit right from day one.

  • 3. Your Plan

You leave the consultation with a recommended method, a maintenance schedule, and pricing for your set.

  • 4. Maintenance

Every method needs a move-up or a check-in as your hair grows. Keeping that schedule is what keeps the hair underneath healthy.

Read Before Your Consultation

Our guide to choosing the right extension method walks through how the common methods compare, what each one asks of your natural hair, and the mistakes we see most often.

How does application day differ from the consultation?

Application day comes after your consultation, once your color match and method are settled.

  1. Come in with clean, dry hair and no oils or heavy styling product near the scalp, unless your stylist tells you otherwise. Product at the root can keep attachments from holding.
  2. We section your hair in rows and map where each piece goes, keeping them clear of your part and hairline so they stay hidden when you move.
  3. Pieces go in using the method we chose together. V-Light Extensions are bonded extensions set with a light.
  4. We cut and blend the extension hair into yours, since new extensions arrive longer and blunter than your own hair.
  5. We style it, then show you how to brush and part around the attachments.

How should you sleep, wash and brush with extensions in?

Brush daily with a soft bristle or loop brush, holding the hair near the attachments so you never tug at the root. Before bed, braid or tie your hair loosely at the nape so it doesn't tangle on the pillow. Wash leaning back, the way you would at our shampoo bowl, instead of flipping your hair forward. Keep conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends. Dry the roots fully after every wash, since damp attachments can mat. Keep hot tools away from the bonds. If you feel pulling, itching or a piece slipping, call us at (845) 342-4247 instead of adjusting it yourself.

Planning your set with a stylist

Your extension plan starts with a stylist looking at your hair in person, not a photo. We check how your hair carries weight at the root, match color against your regrowth and ends, and talk through how much upkeep you want. Then we recommend a method and the amount of hair that fits. If extensions aren't right for you yet, we'll tell you what to do first. For current work, see our Instagram.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer hair extensions?

Yes. Every extension service at Cut Above starts with a consultation, where we look at your hair and recommend the approach that fits it.

How much do hair extensions cost?

It depends on how much hair your set needs and how long the application takes, so pricing is given at your consultation. Extensions are listed as by consultation on our Service Menu.

Which extension method is right for fine or thin hair?

Fine hair usually does best with lightweight methods placed sparingly, so the weight never pulls at the root. We confirm the right option after seeing your hair in person.

Can extensions be matched to my hair color?

Yes, and it matters as much as the method. We match the extension hair to your natural color, and if you need a color service too, we plan both together.

How often will I need maintenance?

Every method needs regular upkeep as your hair grows. Your stylist gives you a maintenance schedule for your method at the consultation.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Photos of the length or fullness you want, and a quick history of any color or smoothing services from the last year.
